Cotswold District Council is closing the Waterloo car park in Cirencester for one day on Monday 9 April so that essential maintenance work can be carried out.
Motorists with parking permits for the Waterloo have been advised that they will be valid for use in the Brewery and Forum car parks on 9 April.
Anyone using the car park on Sunday 8 April must ensure that their vehicle is removed during the late afternoon. Otherwise, they will not be able to recover their vehicles until the maintenance work is completed on Monday evening.
Cllr Chris Hancock, CDC Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Partnerships, explains why the maintenance is required:
“The recent wintry weather has affected the surface in parts of the car park and we need to fix this as soon as possible. Ideally we would have arranged for this work to be carried out on a Sunday when usage is very light, but fresh tarmac is required for the job and suppliers are not open during the weekend.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that this one day closure might cause. It has not been possible to provide an alternative parking site for all users, but the work has been scheduled for the day of the week which has the lowest parking demand according to our regular surveys. This means that there should be sufficient capacity at other car parks in the town to offset this temporary shortfall.”
