We are currently seeking a number of new External Governors to join our governing body. Cirencester Sixth Form College is the specialist Sixth Form College for Cirencester, Swindon, North Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. It is an ‘Outstanding’ college according to OFSTED and we work hard to maintain that status.
Governors are volunteers who give their time to support the college by advising, challenging and supporting the leadership through their own personal experiences as students, parents/guardians, teachers or members of the local community.
Our purpose is ‘To inspire and empower students to be the best they can be’. We mainly take young people at the age of 16 for up to two years to prepare them for university or direct entry into the workforce. We also undertake some adult education in the local community.
Governors are collectively responsible for setting the strategic direction of the College and its activities. Governors are required to commit to six Corporation meetings and one or two Strategy meetings each year and most are also members of one of our sub-committees which meet up to three times a year. Meetings are normally held on Monday evenings.
Being a Governor is a very rewarding role and, apart from the satisfaction of making a real contribution to the College, many individuals find the experience of working as a Governor enhances their own personal and professional skills. New Governors follow an induction and mentoring programme and on-going training is provided to enable all members to develop their contribution.
You can find out more about the work of the Corporation, and our existing Governors, who come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, by looking at the “Corporation” section on the College’s website: http://www.cirencester.ac.uk/corporation/ and, from their “personal profiles” learn about their motivation for becoming Governors and what they feel they have gained from taking on this role.
This is a voluntary role but we do pay expenses, including travel and child-care, to enable attendance at meetings.
The closing date for applications for this role is: Friday, 16th November 2018. A selection panel will take place during the week commencing 26th November 2018.
It you are interested in applying for this role, or would simply like to find out more about it, please contact Jeannie Adam, Clerk to the Corporation, for an initial informal discussion via Jeannie.Adam@cirencester.ac.uk or write to her c/o Cirencester College, Stroud Rd, Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL7 1XA.
